On that subject why does immigration ask about meeting thru an international marriage broker

anyone using a dating app is looking for a mate/ so why is using a broker so different?

A service that arranges marriages between US citizens and foreign nationals receives scrutiny.   IMBRA is a law to deal with marriage brokers.  

 

A dating app does not arrange marriages between US citizens and foreign nationals.  There is no marriage broker.

Because somebody in Congress thought it was a good idea.  It only affects i129f petitions.   It doesn't prevent the use of a matchmaker but requires additional steps to make it approvable
