@Greenbaum Thank you so much for all the info!  You're wonderful!  My friends are going through Kathmandu, not Casa.  My husband and I went through Casa.  Is it the same for all consulates?

Once the petition leaves NVC the process can veer wildly.  Each consulate has there own process

The case number is used for any payments including but not limited to visa fee, medical fee and any other fee deemed appropriate by your embassy to adjudicate your case.

I can't say for sure if those two will be the same but for others it can be different.

In a CR1 case you receive an invoice number and pay fees online....do you think they haven't given you the correct numbers or confused your case with CR1 ?

There's no confusion. She has the correct number for what is needed to get her K-1 visa.
