advice needed for a cannabis caution please!

I'm 33 years old and my mother is a US citizen, we have been discussing for a long time me coming to the USA and in august this year I stupidly was caught with 7.2 grams of cannabis and received a police caution. I have not used any cannabis since and have no worry's about passing my medical but I'm worried about what this will do to chances when my mother starts the process to sponsor me.

I understand I can apply for a waiver as my offence was for under 30 grams but hear horror story's of people being flat out denied or being banned for a year even with a waiver. I was confident about my situation when i learned of the waiver but I wont lie I'm starting to freak out the more I read especially as my caution is so recent . Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The last time I used was the day I was caught, I was regularly testing my urine with home test kits and when I passed on them I had a private drug test and passed both blood and urine results. I was not willing to apply and have the possibility of failing the drug test at my medical.

it is typical the medical exam will ask you if you have ever used it, I urge you not to lie about this, they will likely ask you the last time you used it, and that typically takes a 1 year ban even a waiver can not help with.

I could be wrong but I remember another thread where a mother was put on a ban that was to be 1 year from the last time she used.

as long as it has been more than a year from the last time used, and mind you they will know, then you should be fine.

What country? Some tend to do a 6 month or 1 year ban than others.

How long ago it happened, when you last use, etc. can be part of the consideration by the panel physician.

Id never lie as they would just catch me out at my interview as my police certificate will show my caution. I'm just wondering what the ramifications of my caution being so fresh will be.

The ban is generally not from the last time used  but from when they applied. People that last used over 5 years ago n some countries have been hit with a 1 year ban (and drug testing in the mean time).

UK tends to be more lenient in my observations. I'll otherwise defer to others who went through London/Knightsbridge.
