During a meeting Thursday on immigration legislation, McCain and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) got into a shouting match when Cornyn started voicing concerns about the number of judicial appeals that illegal immigrants could receive, according to multiple sources -- both Democrats and Republicans -- who heard firsthand accounts of the exchange from lawmakers who were in the room.

At a bipartisan gathering in an ornate meeting room just off the Senate floor, McCain complained that Cornyn was raising petty objections to a compromise plan being worked out between Senate Republicans and Democrats and the White House. He used a curse word associated with chickens and accused Cornyn of raising the issue just to torpedo a deal.

Things got really heated when Cornyn accused McCain of being too busy campaigning for president to take part in the negotiations, which have gone on for months behind closed doors. "Wait a second here," Cornyn said to McCain. "I've been sitting in here for all of these negotiations and you just parachute in here on the last day. You're out of line."

McCain, a former Navy pilot, then used language more accustomed to sailors (not to mention the current vice president, who made news a few years back after a verbal encounter with Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont).

"[Expletive] you! I know more about this than anyone else in the room," shouted McCain at Cornyn. McCain helped craft a bill in 2006 that passed the Senate but couldn't be compromised with a House bill that was much tougher on illegal immigrants.

"I've been sitting in here for all of these negotiations and you just parachute in here on the last day. You're out of line."

That was a jab at McCain's experience as a POW. I remember some Republicans even questioned his military record - saying something like he took the easy way out.

I'd be f##kin pissed too.

Why do you say that?

I interpreted it as Cornyn saying McCain has been too busy running for President to participate in negotiations...

McCain was shot down from the sky and parachuted down. It was no accident that Cornyn used 'parachute'.

parachute, fell from the sky, dropped in, crashed in ... these are common words used to describe someone who was absent then decided to the last minute to be present and project a strong opinion.

what words would you have used to describe the behavior?

maybe we should consider McCain also has a simple bad case of “diarrhea of the mouth”

Was it diarrhea that caused Cheney to say, "Go f##k yourself?"

I give more leeway to an honored POW then a draftdodging warmonger.

there are much better ways to express thoughts or communicate that don't rely on the use of the "f" word.

I just get disgusted listening to these "self important" politicians spewing these wondrous words. almost makes me wonder about the quality of the language being used in the laws they are striving to create ... ;)

Is it just "political things" on TV that bring the yelling of the F word? I am equally profane toward ANYTHING on TV! Yelling profanity at Barney cannot be described!

 Best post of the day!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
