The reason may be you are filing N400 and ROC (remove your condition) at the same time.

For all applied 4th Q of 2018, processing time may take longer than usual because the following:

1- Long Holidays

2- Tax season coming up

3- They have to prepare financial statements for year end.

The Thanksgiving-into-holiday season is definitely a factor in person-hours spent at work vs. out of office, but I doubt your average case reviewer at USCIS has anything to do with financial reporting or taxes at the department level. That would most likely be department heads and accounting department.

 

So don't fret too much!

That's definitely my case: my estimate is 22 months. YIKES!

 

Do you know why is that? Do they only process the N-400 once the ROC is done? Will they process both at the same time?

I think you just answered your question.

You could imagine one of the requirements of N400 is permanent lawful resident.

If your ROC is pending, you are not really a lawful resident yet. So, you are not eligible to the requirements. They now verify your provided info first. Once your ROC approved, they continue to process your N400. 

Therefore, filing both forms will take longer than usual. 

 

These statements above based on my analysis and I am not sure if this is the reason.

The estimate is eventually the estimate. Your case may be faster than your thought.

Thanks for the reply. What about if they call us for an I-751 interview? Could we try and convince them to add some civics questions for good measure?

How do you check how long N400 will take to process? I didn't see anything when I applied for my wife.

Go to the My USCIS website and add your case. It should show up there.

Thanks for your replies. If I did it right 8 to 14 months processing time. I'm hoping shorter. Good luck to us all. There is light at the end of this journey.
