N400. part 9. Time outside of The United States. Filing online.

Hi everyone, i'm filing online the form N400, under the 3 years rules of marriage to an us citizen . I have only 3 years in America and i never travel outside the United States. Put in the part 9, they asking about 5 years . So what should i put ? Please help me

Well you should list which country/ies you were on those 2 years before coming to  the States

For the purpose of the N400, they are concerned about travel only after becoming an LPR.  You are fine with filling in only the past 3 years, and the adjudicating officer will know you are filing under the 3-year rule by the way you filled out the beginning of the online application, not the 5-year rule.

 

If you list the 2 years you were living outside of the US as "travel history", it will just result in the IO crossing out that period of time as it's irrelevant to your application (and possibly confuse the IO while they go through your application as it will appear as though you do not meet the physical presence requirements). 

 

This is a common issue with 3-year applicants, so don't stress out over it.  The online application is the general standard form, hence why it asks for 5 years.  Putting the prior 3 years only is fine, since you are filing under the 3-year rule.
