second medical exam

Does anyone know if there has to be a second medical exam once your fiance comes to the states? I read that if they had one overseas within a year, they don't need another, but I was just told by a USCIS approved Dr. that they will have another and it will cost $650.

Did they receive all the required vaccinations? Some people still require 1-2 shots and those have to be done and verified by a civil surgeon which, can be costly. 

 

Check the form DS-3025, should be checked as complete from original physical/medical, if it isn't then that may be why.

If AOS is submitted within 1 year of the medical exam, then no new medical is required.

That said, there are 2 caveats...

1) The IO can still request one if it is over a year old at the time of the interview. They are not required to do so when doing AOS from K-1, but they can and have requested it in some cases.

2) If your vaccinations are not complete, you need to resolve that. Many Civil Surgeons will refuse to sign off on the form without doing their own medical examination.

Given that the exam is less than a year old, it usually comes down to what your DS-3025 looked like when you submitted it. Was everything on it completeled at the foreign medical exam? And if everything was completeled, did the form accurately reflect this? 

 

The doctor my fiancé saw at Knightsbridge attempted to send him home with an uncompleted vaccine list trying to tell him he didn’t need certain vaccines that I knew he did. Luckily I was visiting him when he had his appointment and I was able to get them to complete and check everything off correctly, because we would have needed a second medical if not. I was told my attitude was “a bit boorish” but eh, it was important.

I know when we looked there was one in my state that was at least $100 cheaper than another. You just may have to decide how far you are willing to drive for a better price.
