I just moved to Pennsylvania from England 5 weeks ago, our wedding is on the 27th October. We just found out today that the cost for me to be added to my fiancé’s health insurance through his work will be $400 a month which has blown us away a bit.

is there anything I can do to get my own health insurance before I’m working? I have asthma so it’s vital I have access to ventolin inhalers.

Hello

Here is a site for PA that might help.   https://www.insurance.pa.gov/Coverage/Pages/Individual-Market.aspx

you may find that the cost here is even higher.  Take a look and see if you can find a plan that will be better priced.

It looks like PA doesn't have its own marketplace website like some other states do. The enrollment period is November 1- December 15th for 2019 coverage. You might have to be on your partner's plan until January. I also don't know if your individual insurance would be any cheaper.

Unfortunately health insurance here is a mess, and it can be a pain in the rear to figure out what the best option is for your situation. Good luck!

You need to know how to compare prices as well. Look at the deductible for the work vs the individual plans. Look to see if you have a very limited group of doctors you can choose from (HMO plans). Group plans (from his work) may be cheaper than individual policies. You are eligible to enroll now without waiting until 2019.

I’m in NY and I got my own... $550 with dental and eye care. There were slightly cheaper options but it was best option for what was covered. I’m with Oscar.
