I-129F - Birth Certificate

My fiance is filling his I-129F form, and in the field requiring birth certificate number, date and place of issue we have a doubt. The number on the certificate is huge! And if you put that, the date, and the place it doesn´t fit the field when we try printing it.

How many numbers are there supposed to be?

And also, place of issue and date of issue is related to the original certificate or the copy he ordered now at his local office? ´Cus the birth certificate brings both.

I always thought that the 'number, date and place of issue' part of that form was referring to the naturalization certificate (if citizenship was acquired through naturalization).

It shows right under the Birth at US part. And says registration number. I guess it´s valid for both?

Tracy is correct, if you have a US birth cert you do not have to put any numbers down!!

Unfortunately the question isnt layed out as well as it is on the I-130 but it does refer to the naturalization certificate number and as it is all a part of question 12 you have answered the question by checking 'Birth in the US' so the remainder is left blank.

pnd629,

I have noted other members that have put the US Birth Certificate number here without it causing problems.

Welcome! Another Brazil x USA couple!

And Aussie is right..... you leave it blank since you already answered the question by saying he was born in the US. The field that asks for the certificate # is just a complement in case of Naturalization.

Good luck on the process!! :star:

Thanks! I´m really nervous about all this. So far the year has been nerve racking for me. I have the bar exame coming up, getting this visa thing rolling (sending him my side of the I-129F pack tomorrow) plus teaching English at Fisk (which makes me nervous ´cus I haven´t been a teacher before, just private tutoring).

OMG I didn't know that!! When my fiance filled it out he couldn't find where the registration number was on his birth cert. so he put 'see birth certificate' I didn't know what else to tell him. He was born in the usa and checked off 'birth in usa' though. Knowing this would have saved us problems last month when we sent it off. I wonder if that's why our petition got a rfe. **more hair gets ripped out** he'll laugh at me when i tell him this. i read the filled in forms too. note to self: pay more attention!

No sweat Steph! I apreciate the help in there, apparently it confuses the bejezus out of everyone, they should be more careful when making those forms.
