I was just wondering if anyone has swung working remotely during this horrific/torturous/inhumane/painful IR-1 process so they could stay with their spouse?  If so, any advice on having this conversation with a manager/supervisor?  Did they understand?

Ive worked with my boss for over 20 years (started as a teenager with his fathers company).  I toyed with the idea with him and it was not very well accepted.  He was most concerned with security breaches from working overseas.  I guess it really depends on the type of work (I work with finance) but it seems a general consensus that most  are not remotely sympathetic of our situation.  I have thought that worse comes to worse working on my own but I don't know how much business I could keep up with remotely.
