Good morning, this is my case if someone can help me.
My wife entered the United States with her son with a K1-K2 visa, we got married in 90 days and sent the AOS, now the entire package was returned along with the money orders with an I-797C that says.

THIS REFERS TO THE I-485 APPLICATION TO PERMANENTLY REGISTER OR ADJUST TO THE CONDITION, YOU SUBMITTED I-485 FEES AND YOU WILL BE RETURNED TO ANY SUPPORT DOCUMENT FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS:
THE AMOUNT OF PAYMENT IS INCORRECT OR HAS NOT BEEN PROVIDED. PLEASE REVIEW THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE FORMS TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ABOUT THE PAYMENT.
PLEASE, SHOW THE APPLICATION / REQUEST PACKAGE WITH THE APPROPRIATE RATES TO THE ADDRESS THAT APPEARS ON THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE.

For my wife I send 4 money orders, (2) of $ 500.00 (1) of $ 140.00 and (1) of $ 85.00 for a total of $ 1140.00 of I-485 and $ 85.00 for the bio metric service
For my son I send (1) money order of $ 750.00.

For each one of them I send the forms
I-485
I-131
I-864
I-693
I-765

Can someone tell me what's wrong? or the best way to send all the documents. It is already the second time that the packages are returned to us.
PLEASE HELP
Many Thanks

Just a guess - could it be because you split the I-485 fees into 3 separate money orders? It does say "You must submit all fees in the exact amount" on the instruction form. I realize that's open to interpretation but technically you submitted the fees not in their exact amount. Did you split it into 3 money orders the first time it got sent back too? Again, that's just a guess based on your description. I have seen people get the I-485 rejected for combining fees before, so that also might apply for splitting a fee?

Also - did you make the money orders out to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security" ?

The first time they returned it was for something different with the same money orders and they did not say anything about the money orders.
Yes, money orders are made to the Department of Homeland Security.

If that is the case, should I make the money orders again? 1 for $ 1140.00 for I-485 and another for $ 85.00 for Biomeric for my wife or do everything together for $ 1225.00 and $ 750 for my son?

No, it does not say for me to  submit the fees in the exact amount. It dose say please resubmit the application with the appropiate fees

Unless someone weighs in with a better answer, I'd try again with one money order for the full I-485 fee of $1140 and keep the other fees separate like you already have. I'd also just do some searching in here to find other people's accounts of having AOS sent back for incorrect fees and see how they successfully solved it.

Another thing - your son is under 13 years of age, correct?

Just did a search about splitting money orders up and lots of others have said it's okay, so I'm honestly not sure what is triggering your rejection. Were the money orders from an institution located in the U.S.?

It's worth a shot to try that but I'd wait and see if anyone else notices anything that could be the cause...

good luck!

Yes they are from Publix,  I know, it's frustrating, I know  people who send them separately and have not had any problems, in fact there are institutions that do not sell money orders over $500.00

Another option: USCIS now accepts credit cards, https://www.uscis.gov/news/news-releases/uscis-expands-credit-card-payment-option-fees. Also, it's a quick way to get credit card rewards, for applicable credit card programs.

Your Input Is Appreciated On This VJ Guide Proposal:
