I-864 QUESTIONS PETITIONING BOTH PARENTS

I’m filling up I-864 and am confused. I’m petitioning my Mom and Dad. I have questions:

1— Part 3. Information About the Immigrants You Are Sponsoring. Does the only one to check is the box # 1?

2— Under it are list of family members. Do I need to include my mom under Family Member 1?

3— Part 3. Information About the Immigrants You are Sponsoring. Do I have to enter 1 or 2?

4— I am unemployed and filing taxes jointly with my husband. On Part 6. Sponsor’s Employment and Income. Do I have to write “0” for current individual annual income?

Thank you so much for your help!

Part 3. I check the #2 as I'm petitioning my parents also and yes wrote the name of 1 of your parents in member 1.

Part 3. (29) enter 2.

4. Enter your household income. Since your unemployed enter your husband annual income. This what I answer on mine and NVC accepted it. Just waiting for interview date now

Yes -  Part 3. Item 2 says "Do not include any relative listed on a separate visa petition". Your Mom and Dad are totally separate petitions and each has it's own I-864 and a separate I-864A (in your case since your husband is the household joint sponsor)

The only thing you check is Part 3. Item 1 as Yes.

Item 2 and 3 would be blank and so would all the Family Member items 4-28

Hi Bless,

Thank you for the info. Like OP, I am also planning to petition my father in the Philippines. I currently don't have income too so I need my husband's support as well. Quick question, do I have to file the form I-130 too or just I-864 and I-864A since my husband will co-sponsor? Thank you in advance.

Hi mhem,

Thanks for the question. I was about to start a topic about this one too but found yours. Quick question, do you also need to submit I-130 form or just I-864? I'm also planning to petition my father as well and currently am unemployrd but my husband will co-sponsor. Thanks!

if you haven't started the petition, the i130 is the first form

you won't need to file the i864 until later

Thank you. Yes, I’m just about to start filing. I’m still browsing on these threads about bringing a parent here in the US. Thank you 😊
