Good Morning,

I had filed for IR-5 ( green cards for parents of US Citizen) and the interview is scheduled at 25th sept at Mumbai Consulate in India, but unfortunately my father has passed away,  what are the steps which i need to do to let uscis know, or Mumbai consulate know about this, so that it does not affect my mothers interview. and do i need to send in a scanned death certificate to anyone ?

I believe your mom should attend her interview and take a death certificate of your father's. Please accept my condolences.

  • You do not need to do anything.
  • Your mother should attend and bring your father's death certificate.  Each immediate relative of USC has his/her own individual petition, so the death of your father has no impact on your mother's visa approval.

I hope your family gets through this dark time and your mother can be with you in US soon.
