I-864 and taxes

I'm filling out the Affadavit of Support and on questions 24b and c, it is asking for the gross income reported on the Federal Tax Returns.  My ex wife and I filed as joint for those years (2015 and 2016). Do I list total income (including hers)? I'm assuming that I just put what the return shows,  which was our combined income. Do I need to include a note in the cover letter that points out my income separate from hers during those two years? Thanks for your help.

You list the income from the tax return exactly as stated on the tax return.

There is a separate spot on the I-864 for listing your current income, which is only what you make. This will be supported by the evidence of your income (e.g. pay stubs).

The income figure in the tax section comes from line 22 of the first page of the 1040 or if the 1040EZ is used, it is the adjusted gross income figure.  Current income does not come from a tax return unless the sponsor is self employed.
