so i'm a bit of an art collector, and through the years, i have bought many paintings from bali, thailand, vietnam and philippines. i also have some art decors and artfacts that i have bought here in asia through all my travels. was wondering, what is the cheapest way (but will arrive in the us safely) to be able to send all my things from the philippines to the us. i'm moving to the us on a k1 visa this september or october, and so i would want to know if any of you have experiences with it. all i can find is, shipping from the us to the philippines but none the other way. thanks!

Shipping back to USA tends to be very expensive, and usually not a good solution

From reading expat forums when people decide to move back to USA and want to take items with them. They usually just pack them in the Balikbayan boxes and check them in at the airport and pay the luggage fee.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

LBC has offices in many of the malls and I know they ship TO the USA.

thank you greenbaum for answering my question so fast! i did try google before but didn't get much answers. most of them are usa to the philippines, but not the other way around.  anyway, i appreciate you giving the links in and i have went to each website and these are what it came up with:

johnny air cargo (they do balikbayan boxes but then only from america to the philippines but not the other way around)

global cargo movers (only ships balikbayan boxes from us to the philippines) --> you gave like 2 links for this.

lbc (they only do small packs and pouches for sending international. their small boxes are are domestic/within the philippines)

2go (they have lcl but its only domestic and within the philippines, so not going to america) they do send small parcels and packages to the us. but not balikbayan box or paintings (they're big enough not to even fit inside a car).

DHL has shipping but only small parcels on air freight. they don't do air freight for more than 30kilos for personal/private consumers. they don't do LCL ocean freight for personal/private consumers over and under 30 kilos. so DHL is still not the one for me.

manila forwarder might be my only possible chance. but i would need my green card for it and some of my other documents for it before i can have them sent to the us. this might be my last hope but still looking for other possibilities.

hey chris duffy! yeah as an expat myself to different asian countries, i do usually do the take things with me on excess baggage going out of the country. but whenever i needed to go home and bring home some of my stuff and furniture, it was easy cause there are many shipping providers within asia that send to the philippines. it seems sending to the philippines is easy and cheap but getting things out of our country is so hard.  but this is a more permanent move, and moving my entire life, which means a lot of my prized collections of antiques, paintings, decors and furniture which definitely will not fit balikbayan boxes. my parents wants a clean sweep like nothing left here at all in the philippines so they don't have to take care/keep anything. which is why i'm a bit stuck on limbo on this and just have to send everything to america. i gave away like 90% of my clothes, and gave up a lot of my things and gave it to different people who help me in my community and my maids and driver. but those art stuff that are valuable, hard to find are definitely something i would want and need to keep and are unique to asia which i can't get.

but i will for sure be doing an excess baggage going to the us for me, my mom and my dad when they go to attend my upcoming wedding. i'm trying to rally some of my family/friends to come to so that they can take my stuff on the plane on their baggage allowance.

Box that was shipped to me was about 16 x 16 x 16.   I never checked for a BB box size so I am no help with anything larger

oh it's ok... no worries about that. i mean i do really appreciate you replying to my thread as well as greenbaum and chris duffy. i did just really post this to ask and see if anyone else knew anything new or something from the us side. apparently there are a lot of new things/services that being invented  that google probably doesn't show in their first 10 pages. like i found a send my bag service (you can send a bag of things) to anywhere in the world. it's quite pricey but it's on my list of possibilities but it's only for small bags. so thanks so much! i really appreciate any help and idea i can get!

Paintings can be removed from their framing and rolled up to ship in tubes.   Just a thought.

true they can, but i have my paintings in high end  balinese teak wood carvings or narra ones. so the wood itself is expensive and hard to get. not like the easy to dispose wood framing and they are also not of standard sizing so a ready made one is not easy to get. i have taken most out of their frames already, but i have a a few like about 10-15 of them that i can't take (i have enough paintings to actually do a whole gallery. hahaha. it's what i invest in cause it's more affordable that properties).

I do understand.    Bringing them to the USA would not be cheap for sure.
