Hi all!

Just wanted to ask if I renew my passport next year, if the PH embassy/ consulate will honor/ use my American name?
We didn't use the filipino way of name changing when we got married, so my maiden surname is dropped off. Is it going to be okay?
I'm just worried.

Thanks for the help in advance

What's on your marriage certificate? That's what you can legally use.

On the marriage cert, my maiden name is still the one written there. But when i submitted my AoS a couple of weeks ago, we started using my married name :(

Wait.  You got married and your married name is not on the marriage certificate?  Makes no sense to me.  We got married in the Philippines and the pastor handling our paperwork entered the names on the Marriage certificate.  Please explain...

It is that way in many states, only names on the marriage certificate are the single names.  Arizona is like that.     Married name is what you start using after marriage ... it is that simple.

You completed ROM (Report of Marriage) through the consulate ?

DFA will follow Philippines traditional naming format

Whoops, I missed the fact that they didn't get married in the Philippines.  In Philippines my wife had to decide how she wanted to put her name on the marriage certificate.  I encouraged her to follow her Filipino tradition and to keep her maiden name in the mix.  So now her first name consists of her first name and what used to be her middle name (2 words) , her middle name is her maiden name and her last name is mine.  For us everything after that was easy because we didn't have to change anything later.

Thank you for the answer. We haven't done the ROM yet, but we will in the upcoming week.

Is it gonna be fine though that if I get the new passport that it has a different name (cause they will follow traditional Filipino name) and then it will be different for my EAD, SSN and temporary green card because I submitted the American format :(

Just really worried that it will cause confusion/problems in the future.

Really appreciate your help.

There may be a small amount of confusion when traveling internationally, may want to carry a copy of your marriage certificate when internationally traveling.   And do remember - airfare MUST match the name in the passport.
