Does a letter from Congressman helps?

Hi,

 

Every now and then I see a post where people mention how their file got processed faster once they asked the congressman of there district for a letter to USCIS on the status of there application. Is it true in most of the cases?

 

Also, what is the waiting period before someone try to take help of the elected members of there district? And whether they contact house or senate representative?

You should be at least outside of the normal processing time before you contact anyone. Which I'd tell you what it is, but you have no timeline and no idea what file you're talking about.

An congressperson is prohibited from influencing the decision on one's case. That said, they can come in handy to help get information about a case that is outside normal processing times, or can submit an expedite request (if one has a verifiable cause to expedite) on one's behalf.

Just contacting a representative to try to push an in-normal-timeline case along will not be effective.
