I-864A confusion HELP!

My wife is filling I-864 as my sponsor. My wife has a job but to meet the requirements of 125% poverty baseline, we asked her dad to help us with the sponsor. My wife is not a dependent by her dad and we are currently living in IL and her dad is on CA. Her dad income is more than the 125% including the other household member. 

 

Base on the instruction, we are confused which form to file "I-864A or file I-864 as joint sponsor".

If her dad file a "I-864", should his wife file I-864A or not.

 

on my understanding

I-864A - only if the sponsor and household member(her dad) on the same principal resident. Or if the sponsor is dependent by household member.

The father would file an I-864 as a joint sponsor. The I-864A for him would not apply as he is not in the same residence as your wife.

 

If her father files taxes jointly with his spouse, then his spouse would file an I-864A as well. This is not strictly required, but is usually requested so it should be provided to avoid an NVC checklist or 221(g).

7/13/2017: Interview: APPROVED!!!

7/19/2017: Visa in hand
