I'm just now starting my wife's AOS paperwork and I just noticed that you needed W2 as proof of income I was disabled and was only receiving SSI and militaryretirement at was in the Philippines during tax season and did not do my taxes I know I'm a terrible person but I would like to know is if I can turn in stuff from my current job i e pay stubs and a letter or if I need to retroactively do my taxes to satisfy the AOS requirements.

w2 are for employed people, if you weren't employed last year then you don't have one. you can attach a letter explaining why you weren't required to file taxes last year

My spouse also was only collecting ssi and military benefits when we sent in the letter why he was not required to file taxes we got a checklist, so we sent the 1099 and we printed the irs document and highlighted where it said he was not required to file taxes and it was accepted and we got a Case Complete 2 weeks after.
