Im in gainesville florida, and the smoke it so bad, and there are ashes flying around, it looks like its snowing. Gainesville is in Alachua county.

Bradford Fire--State of Emergencey

A state of emergency has been declared for Bradford County due to a 16,000-acre wildfire, roughly 2,000-acres of which are burning into Alachua County.

As of 8 AM, officials say the fire was 35% contained. Evacuations may still be necessary as winds are causing the fire to continue moving south into Alachua County. A shelter is open at Bradford Middle School's gym and citizens needing shelter for animals are asked to call Emergency Management at (904) 966-6300. Classes have been cancelled at Hampton Elementary School and Hope Christian Academy. ROAD CLOSURES: SR-100 (from Starke to Keystone Heights)...CR-18 (from State Road 100 to Hampton)...CR-325...SE 109th Street. For updated road closure information, check the FHP website or call FDOT's free travel information number, 5-1-1. Stay tuned to WCJB for the latest on the fire conditions at noon.

i wonder if we will get a day off work for this :)

We are getting smoke from the fire i just posted, and the fire from volusia county AND the fire in waycross GA. we are screwed, its so hard to breath. we are in a building and everyones eyes are watering from the smoke.

Not yet, id say the fire is about 20 miles from my house, and if i need to ill just drive towards the tropical storm :lol: MAN florida is screwed no matter what LOL

we cant win for lose, tropical ####### on the east, fires on the east, north and west. my only option is cuba LOL

We were getting smoke from the north FL and GA fires all the way down here in Tampa. It was like a stinky fog this morning on the way to work. I had a headache and burning eyes until about lunch time. I can't imagine how bad it is closer to the fires. Hopefully they get them under control soon.

I hear ya, a few days ago it wasnt that bad, now its blowing ash all over, i walked outside and almost puked from the smell, and the ashe gets in your mouth, and im a smoker

Seriously, that's what I'm thinking...It must be pretty bad if everyone's eyes are watering IN the building. I'm sure they will let you all go home.

we thought that to, half the call center is coughing, the other half is like " my eyes sting" and we are still here. i have 20 mins left til i go home, but im wondering if it gets worse tomorrow what will they do

heres a visual, its 4:41pm, and i swear the smoke is so thick, it looks like its 8:15pm DUSK outside. its dark and orange. it looks like its almost time to go to bed.

im worried about the drive home, i live 30 minutes north of work where my husband said the smoke is even worse. and ppl in gainesville cant even drive when its clear outside :)

Jenn ill be ok :) ill even report tomorrow and let ya know whats going on here.

We finally cleared up with all that smoke but it was REALLY bad for a while. I know what you're going through Tara :(

eta: They closed SEVERAL roads here in Jax when the smoke got bad so check to see if there have been any road closures :)

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!
