Hi everyone,

First, thank you SO much for this incredible forum.

My fiancee lives in Bogota Colombia and we need to translate her 18 page Colombian divorce papers to English(I was shocked to receive it and see it had about a million words and the life story of everybody in it.)  I already got a few internet quotes to translate that were over $500 Dollars!!!  :(  :(  :(

1. Is there a shorter "official divorce document" from Colombia that the US Govt will accept?

2. Does anybody know a cheap translator on the web or in Bogota, Colombia we can use to translate to English?

Thanks so much!

Send what they ask for. I wouldnt risk sending a short form. You could get an RFE for the long one :/

For us (fortunately it was all in English and not all that long lol) I send the divorce decree and divorce certificate. I wasn't sure what they wanted so I sent both.

To the best of my knowledge, translations do not have to be 'official' or done by any special governing body. You can have anyone (other than yourself or your fiance) translate it, just make sure they sign it or a letter or something with their name and contact info.

Do you have any friend in a major hispanic area? 18 pages is really long, the reason for them to charge you more. I knew from my days in Union City, NJ. They had plenty of translators all over and they where cheap, but 18 pages is no way going to be less than $200

when I send to translate my divorce decree I use the the official link from the embassy. https://tramites.cancilleria.gov.co/ApostillaLegalizacion/directorio/Traductores.aspx

they charge around $20 dollars per page. and they may can tell you if you dont need the 18 pages but the first 10. just get in contact with each one of them and they all can have different pricess, but around the $20 dollars is normal.

I love you because the entire universe conspired to help me find you ❤️
