I Forgot Selective Service Letter

The title says it all: after extremely stressful past weeks I really forgot to request a letter that states that I have not registered with selective services and was not needed to because in the critical years I was either not here yet or on a student visa.

Its 18 days until my interview, that surely will not arrive in time then ? :-( I really could hit myself !

"Also, since an immigrant who is age 31 or older remains eligible for naturalization even if he knowingly and willfully failed to register, he should not be asked to get a "Status Information Letter" from Selective Service."

When did you get your GC? If you received your GC when you were 26 or older, you don’t need any letters.

Oh Gosh, are you guys sure ????

i received my Green Card when I was 28. I have a signed statement from my Alma mater stating that during my time there I was always on an F1 Visa and on OPT extension and that I remained in this status until I turned 28, attached is also the I-20 from back in the day.

I only know what the selective service administration has written on its website - make of it what you will.  But why do you think you need a letter despite that?

It says to bring one on my online account for naturalization. :(

What does it say specifically? I bet it’s just a generic statement applicable to people who became LPR before 26 years old but didn’t serve.

It is certainly a general statement it’s not an individual request to me.

I personally think that if the officer has all his senses together, then he should easily be able to look at my birthdate, the time when I became a permanent residence, and figure out that I was not requested to ever register with selective services anyways. But then again it would be stupid to not be approved because of this.

I got my citizenship last year and I didn’t even bother to look into that stuff as I was over 26 when I got my GC. I was under 26 when I came to US with F1 visa.

This comes up every week.  People don't seem to understand the concept of "if applicable."

Apologies, guys !!! I appreciate the help but Don’t be hating on me though.

I know there are people here who have the balls to just wing it in the Civics Test, figure out things later etc.

I am not one of them, so the fact that I left this up until now annoys me big time already.

You'll be fine.  If you don't have it anyway, how does it help to worry about it?

As said, don’t worry. You didn’t leave that thing in your application since it’s not applicable to you at all.

It’s equivalent to someone who is petitioning for the first and only wife but worrying about how to get the dicorce docs just because it was mentioned in the i130 instruction. Not all docs being asked are applicable to all. So relax and gud luck for your interview.
