Me and my fiance are K-1 visa February filers.....patiently awaiting our NOA2. Im getting a little anxious because (hopefully) our approval will be coming soon, and I dont know what to do!! Whilte we are waiting, isnt there something we could be doing in the meantime so that we are prepared when our NOA2 arrives?

My fiance lives in South Africa, and Ive tried researching the Johannesburg embassy for helpful information, but nothing. Im wondering if he should go ahead and apply for his police clearance (since it takes a while)? And get his medical exam?

Im very nervous about the next step after the NOA2, and want everything to go as smooth as possible. Does anyone have any advice on what we could doing NOW to prepare ourselves?

Thanks for any advice! :help:

Police clearance is typically valid for 1 year... if it takes a while to get by all means get it in process... Many medical clinics require you to have your case number as assigned by NVC before you can schedule and get the medical done.

YMMV

I needed my case number before I could book the medical exam, so you probably won't be able to do that until you get your case number from the NVC.

But you can certainly go ahead and get the police certificate.

Hope you hear something soon.

I'd go ahead and get the police report stuff started, my fiance was told it would take at least a month to get them from the police. Other people he talked to said that the major hold up in other South African visa cases was invariably the police reports.

How far are you guys now with your papers???

I am also in SA waiting patiently to get to my man in the US...

I have already gone ahead and applied for my police clearance and am fetching it tomorrow. I applied on the 14 May and it is ready now.

Some of my friends waited 2-3 months to get theirs.

HE also needs tp apply for an unabridged birth certificate if he has not done so as yet. He can apply for that at the closest home affairs and it costs R50. That is the birth certificate that has his parents details on it too. I got that heads up from a friend leaving next month for the states. Her two barriers to get to her interview were the police clearance and the unabridged birth certificate. Otherwise I think everything else can only be done once we get approved and get the next instructions from them....

Hope this helped a bit. Feel free to mail me anytime...

filing for the police check would be a good idea, as well as getting information together for your I-134 Affidavit of Support if you haven't already. You could start reading up on AOS stuff (though it's a little early to do that, knowing what the next steps are comes in handy...like the fact that when your fiance moves here, he should probably go through JFK if he wants to work immediately). Order tax transcripts from the IRS. Start thinking about how and when you will get married and what the procedures/requirements are for that. Make room in your closet and start planning your new life together!

Good luck!
