10 Year Green Card Has Wrong Date

 Share

Hi everyone,

We successfully removed the conditions on my green card and got the new card in the mail yesterday. Unfortunately USCIS got the "resident since" date wrong - the date printed on my card is from last week (the same day they approved the card). However, the correct date would be from almost 3 years ago when the conditional green card first was approved.

What's the best way to fix this mistake? It seems I can file an I-90 (which would take another year!!), but I've also seen I can file an online service request for a typographical error (https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/Intro.do). I haven't found much info regarding the latter. Does anyone have any experience with a service request regarding a typographical error?

On the other hand, would there be harm in not doing anything and just keeping the card? Can I travel with the card? Thanks for any insights!

They've done this to the most recent batch of green cards to come out of there. The decent thing for them to do would be to re-issue them all without us having to file the I-90, but I figure they may not. I filed that form and also the service request. I'm hoping they'll notice the sudden uptick in errors and rectify the situation.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

It's a legal document/identification card with the incorrect information.  Using the card as proof of status when filing for naturalization later on or renewing your 10-year GC later on, or even on-hand accurate proof of when you were approved of LPR status should any legal/immigration/criminal issue arise in the future----- not getting your GC card reissued now with the correct info as your main piece of US-based identification when you initially became a LPR can come back to haunt you.

It's irritating to deal with, no doubt---but at least you won't have to pay a fee for USCIS to correct their own mistake.

I just filed the service request; Supposed to get an answer by April 29. I'm seeing just now in the monthly filer threads how widespread the issue is. I do think they should send us new cards - going the I-90 route and waiting another year (!) because of a mistake we didn't make doesn't seem right.

Do you guys think it's ok to use the card for travel? I have a trip coming up in a few months, but wouldn't want to use it if it causes issues coming back.

I think its correct because it's going to count 10 years from the day of conditions was lifted..  i just don't know if time to file citizenship is affected, coz the system has data saved as to when you got your conditional one. Travelling should not be a problem. You have the other expired gc, extention letter plus passport if need be. Carry them with you.

It's not correct. It should show the day you became a resident (CR-1 entry date or AOS approval date), then the expiry should show 10 years from ROC approval date. Mine shows neither.

That's what I keep trying to tell myself lol. My NOA was 9/28/16, got approved on 3/15/18 and my service center was CSC. I don't think CSC is to blame for this, though. The cards come from either Corbin, KY or Lee's Summit, MO.

Hey guys,

i got approved by CSC n just received my 10 year GC yesterday and after checking the card I found out that they have made a mistake on my year of birth changing it from 1977 to 1974( after waiting for a year and half) I have filled the I-90 forms and my questions are:

What documents should I include to send them the card back and where should I send to(I live in Tesaa)

My other question, can I go ahead an apply for my citizenship.

And does it take a year to receive another GC?

Thanks all

Hi all, I am posting here what I posted on the October 2016 applicants thread:

Hello everyone,

So I just called USCIS, and was able to talk to someone. I asked him if there will be a problem if I apply for citizenship with my 10-year green card showing an incorrect "residence since" date, and the person I talked to said, there won't be any. Now, I am not sure if this is 100% true, because as you all know, most of the time the CSRs don't exactly know what they are saying, but he did say that I don't need to apply for a replacement card if I am going to apply for citizenship, so as long as I have the document that would show my original approval (aka 2-year conditional green card). He did say, however, that if I am planning to travel, then that is when I actually need to get a replacement card, showing the correct dates. I told him that I don't want any problems along the way, especially being denied and then having to pay to $72++ citizenship fee, and he told me that he understood, and repeated to say that really, there wouldn't be any problems. Anybody else called them today?

Hi

Everyone,

I have the same issue with the resident since date.

USCIS put I-751 approval date on the new 10 year card.

Would it be okay to apply N400 on that green card ? If I don't have any plans to travel outside of US.

If i apply n400 now by putting copies of my old and new green cards then during the n400 interview would there be any issue ?
