Hi, everybody!

My friend recently got married and now this is a time to do AOS. They live with his wife’s mother and don’t have a lease agreement or mortgage in their names. To prove that they’re living together they need at least a letter from the mother. I saw somebody mentioning that they had to do the same thing. Can anybody to help with the style of this letter? Please, if somebody has the same situation, share your experience how it worked at the interview. Was there any problem that they didn’t have a place in their name?

You don't need to provide actual proof of cohabitation in your AOS application. You will need to at your interview. They should be safe for now.

We lived with my mom while filing, no problems. But we soon moved into our own place.

Us too...we didn't get a letter from her or anything though, and we were fine. Depends on the IO, though.

A lease agreement is just one of many possible bonifides than can be presented as evidence. You can present what you do have. You can't present what you don't have.

finish4start,

No, they do not. There are all sorts of documents that show a person's address and that can be used to show that the reside in the same place.

Why don't they enter into a rental agreement with the mother with both you an your spouse listed?

There are a bunch of ways that could show cohabitation, here are just a few:

Credit card Bills

Fitness club member ships

Personal Correspondence

IRS letters

car titles

They can do a lease agreement with mom and then PAY mom. If they agree to pay say, 500 a month or whatever, even if it is 200 or something, pay in CHECK and keep all cancelled checks..>9get copies from the bank. This will serve as proof they pay and they leasing.
