Canadian wanting to work in US

Hello, Im from Canada and i got a job offer for being a dog trainer assistant full time. But i will only be working there for 4 or 5 months. What kind of visa do i need for this and roughly how long does it take?

I don't see dog trainer on the list of valid TN categories, so that's out. 

 

The employer must petition for you. You don't apply for the visa yourself. I assume the employer has an immigration lawyer working for them who is taking care of all the paperwork? I would ask the employer which visa type they are pursuing for you. 

 

Unfortunately being offered a job is not enough. The employer must convince the government that the position merits bringing a foreigner into the country to do a job that a USC or green card holder could perform without needing a visa. Only if those requirements ar met, will the employer be able to start the visa process.

Beyond that, you need to obtain and qualify for a work visa like anybody else across the world. This is not a simple process, and the employer would have to petition for you (and incur all the costs associated with doing so, which is not cheap). That's assuming your background/experience and occupation qualify for said visa. An assistant dog trainer does not appear, at least prima facia, to come close. Sorry.

I assume you informed your prospective new employer before being hired that you did not possess work authorization in the US?

 

Unless you have special qualifications/certification under your belt in regards to dog training and your new employer would not be able to find a likewise qualified USC or LPR they could hire instead, the chances of you getting a work visa seems slim, unfortunately.
