I am from the United Kingdom. I married my husband who is an American citizen. We married in England 1993 we filed all the paperwork for me to come to the US legally. I have lived in the US for 25 years on a permanent green card which I renew every 10 years. My current card does not expire until 2025. I decided last year to apply for my citizenship as we travel a lot and my father's health is declining. I applied for N-400 July 14th 2017 I had my biometrics appointment August 9th 2017. Now I have been waiting for 8 months. I have called a few times to check what was going on. But I was still in normal processing time. As of March 15th 2018 the website had indicated I was outside normal time. I contacted them. I received a letter stating my application was on hold because the required security checks remain pending. My case status still says case received but it has been that way for 250 days. I have never even been pulled over for a speeding ticket I have lived in the US longer than I lived in England. I am married to the same US citizen for 25 years always paid my taxes. I feel like I am on eternal hold and it is really affecting my life. Is this normal or should I be worried? I am just so stressed and just don't know what to do. If anyone has advice I would really appreciate it.

Have you spoken to L2 officers when you call USCIS, or just the "regular" customer service people who initially answer the phone?

If you haven't as of yet, I would suggest requesting your call be transferred to an L2 officer who can look into the personal details of your case and see if they can give you any additional info.

Hi, I waited 8 months for an interview, I called USCIS once and they told me I was within the normal processing time. I have never been in any trouble, I don't drive, my case it's pretty simple, applied under the 5 year rule. Also it depends on your field office and how busy the IO whom have your file is. There is nothing you can do but wait. It will come sooner than you think. Paper filers are taking 8 months to a year for an interview.

Thanks Going through I did not know there was someone else I could talk to. I will for sure call and ask for an L2 officer. Congratulations on  becoming a citizen. I read about your process. We actually applied the same day. I feel like mine has been forgotten about as I have had no status update. My status still only shows case received. I feel like the letter I received was a generic response well I am hoping it is. I wrote to my congressman last night to look into the situation. Hopefully that will help the process along. I do appreciate your advice thanks you.

Your file is on the desk of an FBI agent, somewhere.  Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do to make him or her grab your file and do their goddamn job. You'll have to wait.

That being said, make an Infopass Appointment with the USCIS and light a friendly fire under the I.O.s buttocks.

Twenty-five years . . . . huh . . . and now time is of the essence. How ironic!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Ms Stephy:

I been actively reading post here on regular basis. I am can tell you, there is nothing you can do for USCIS to speed your process. Unfortunately Naturalization is a Privilege not a right.

At this point if you contacted USCIS call center, Contacted the office personally. I advise you to just wait , and you will see the results...

After few months if you no update, call your local senator to do inquiry on your behalf.

Right now, please forget about this process, focus on your family but still keep eye for this interview letter.

best Wishes
