My wife is filing for me she is a us citizen. I went for my interview and the officer said I can pick up my passport book in a week time with my visa. I was so overwhelming that I said thanks and left, should I have got a paper r something to know when to pick it up? I had already signed up for the dhl service

How long will it take for me to get back my passport?

That depends on the speed at which the consulate processes and issues the visa, and the speed of DHL........You just have to have patience.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Do I have to pay uscis immigrant fee before I enter the USA?

You don't have to but they won't start producing your green card until both of the following have happened:

- you arrive and are inspected by a CBP officer

- you pay the $220 fee

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Correct but the USC pays the fee from their US checking account and things will happen faster if it is paid BEFORE entry.

If you entered the US on a CR-1, you are authorized to work now.  The stamp you received in your visa acts as a temporary green card until the plastic one arrives......Congratulations and welcome to the US!
