Minor’s Tourist Visa interview.

Hi. Has anyone taken their minors to the consular interview for tourist visas? Me and my husband have the visas and have been to the USA and back.

Which questions do they ask for the minors interview? Which supporting documents do we need? Which ties do we show?

Ps: Hubby will not go to the interview as he will be out of the country (kenya) for a work assignment at the time. And he will also not travel to the USA with us. It’s just for 3weeks and one of us needs to be around for the projects we have.

Questions asked can depend on the age of the child.

Some younger children have been asked just if they look forward to visiting the States, and how old they are.

Some older children have been asked deeper questions related to the information presented on the application.

Supporting documents are the same sort of things you and your spouse had to show when getting your own tourist visas (ie. proof of returning to the home country).

The main thing will be proving the mother will return to the home country with the children after visiting....If the 4 and 9 year old attend school, CO may wonder about 3 weeks worth of attendance being lost (unless the trip is taken during school vacation time).

You said your husband is not travelling with you---however is he meeting up with you in the US during your trip at any point?  CO might assume this as well.

You will need to show strong ties for you and your children back home.  Good points in your favor is that you and your husband have traveled before on the tourist visa and never abused it in the past.

As I recall if kids are under 14 and at least one parent has or had a US visa, the application doesn’t need an interview.

also your second post sounded quite rude. People here aren’t paid to sit and wait for questions to respond to, not everyone is in the same time zone as you, and not everyone who reads a post knows the answer.

Thank you so so much for the tips. We are traveling on the kids school break yes..

Had also not thought about the CO assuming my husband will meet me up in the USA. Am a student as well and have ongoing projects with him that I am in charge of. Property too. Will that help?

"Projects with him"---are you actually employed and paid for by a company, or do you mean that you just help him out from time to time?  If so, not a tie.

Being a student is a tie if you can prove enrollment in your program---although if you are a student, how are you going to explain missing 3 weeks worth of classes?

Home ownership is a tie, yes.

I really appreciate your responses and telling me stuff we have not thought about.

In Kenya, most programs and schools have the month we are hoping to travel as a ‘school holiday’. I Will be on a school break too and will have a letter from my school as well as from the school-going child’s school.

By project I mean businesses my spouse and I own which I operate in addition to going to school- am almost done with schooling. My hubby is employed. We have proof of the businesses and from the company he works for. Does this count?

Please, if you think about anything else let me know. It helps to hear from someone else.

Hi,

We took the kids to the interview and all they needed to know was what we do, how much we make and then chatted alittle bit with the kids.  We will traveling soon when the older one breaks for school holiday and stay for 3-4weeks then back. Thanks for your tips.

Glad it worked out for you!
