State wants another TB testing (after passing St. Luke's)

My mom had a problem with her x-rays at St. Luke's and had to do the sputum culture. The results came back clear, she got her visa and arrived to the US with my dad last month. They're staying in Wyoming with my sister right now although they may or may not move in with me here in Texas at some point.

Last week, I received a call from the health department in the county where they live. The nurse I talked to said that she was notified by the state about my mom's x-ray problem back in the Philippines and that as a state requirement, my mom needs to be tested for TB at the county health department. I explained to her what my mom had to go through as far as medical exam back in the Philippines to be able to come here. The nurse still insisted on a TB test.

Has this happened to anyone? Should my mom do the test? I mean she has already applied for her green card and will get it in the mail sooner or later, so it's not like refusing the TB test will stop her from becoming a 10-year resident, but I'd like to know how this will affect her being an immigrant. Speaking of green card, I might as well ask, how long does it typically take to arrive in the mail if it was paid for before they left the Philippines?

Hello,

I did not do any tracking, it was simply mailed. Just my two cents, I was wondering if your mom was referred after arrival? And maybe, just maybe beacause of history of TB that she needed to have a follow up testing before her green card is given. It make sense though If the nurse called you to have your mother undergo another testing. Read page 6 of Form I-693.

This happens to most with TB testing.    The state was notified by  USCIS to complete a 2nd testing, and that why the county health clinic contacted you.

Very simply - GIT ER DUN!

I had a buddy come to our area in USA  to work for Nokia. He is a Swedish National and was married to a Pinay, I suspect she used to be a pok pok.  She claims she was a singer/entertainer in Japan, and I saw some of her pictures in Japan and she sure didn't dress like a singer.  He has worked all over the world, and they met in Philiippines.

He came to USA on a work visa and she was able to come with.  After her being here for a while, She applied for a greencard. She was required to medical exam, I assume she never had to do one to  initially come to the USA.

It was determined she had TB and was told to just stay in the house while she did treatment, I was kinda angry since she might of infected my wife at the time, she also worked at Wal Mart while having the TB.

I called the county health department and asked why she was allowed to keep working and going out to bars and clubs at night, I was told it was an Invasion of Privacy to require her to stay away from the general public.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

This just means that your mother has been cleared of active TB. I underwent the same tests and mine came back negative and was granted visa. I arrived here in the US October last year.

You cannot refuse this test. That's part of the Bwaiver. The health department just needs to test your mother's blood -TB Blood test Quantiferon. I underwent the same test. This tests for latent TB meaning is she carrying the TB virus in her blood. If she tests positive, she'll have to undergo treatment. They won't send your mother home.
