Timeline

My fiancé was never married but lived with her significate other for 10 years. They had a child but again never married.

He passed away 8 years ago, does she need to provide a death certificate or not

Read the instructions carefully...  

 

No.  Death certificate could be used to show termination of a prior marriage for the petition.  No marriage.  No requirement

 

Depending on the country..  The death certificate could be used at time of visa interview to give permission for the child to emigrate if such permission is required by your fiancee' embassy

You the USC or is the finacee?   you were not clear

in  the US we do have "common law marriage"  when 2 people live together over 7 years (depends on the state and other factors)

so are you the USC and will you be appying for a woman with a child? 

or is the USC with a child and you are asking if the USC needs death certificate for former lover?
