Hey everyone,

Thanks again for all the previous help.

As some of you are aware, I submitted my I-130 for my Japanese wife in December last year. To date, I have received an email from the USCIS Postomac Service Center and a letter saying the documentation had been received and it included my receipt number. The email said to use https://www.uscis.gov/ to check my case status. The status has a phrase "sent you the receipt notice that describes how we will process your case. Please follow the instructions in the notice." But the notice did not have any instructions. I have not received anything else or heard anything else. What is the next step? I am currently assuming I simply wait until they finish checking all my paperwork information.

Also, regarding the below website, https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/displayLogon.do.... how do I create a login and password to keep up-to-date on the procedures?

Since you got an email notification from USCIS you should get the hard copy (receipt) in the mail soon. You can start here to create your online account so you can track the status of your case. https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/disclaimer.do Make sure you have your receipt/case number handy. Also there is an app you can download to track your case. It's called "Case Tracker for USCIS"

Thank you for the website link. I created an account and added my receipt number. When I added the receipt number, I clicked on the number and it showed next steps. For me it shows "If we accept your case, you will receive a receipt notice.  If we reject your case, we will send you an explanation with instructions." I believe this is the letter I received in the mail. If so, I can assume the website is not kept up-to-date. Also, the letter had no instructions or numbers. It simply says the I-130 was received and is in process. Then it showed my wife's name, country of birth, date of birth, and the fee that was paid. What is after this step?

The number that you use to track your case is the receipt number. You just need to wait now for NOA2 which can take between 6-8 months depending on which service centre your application has been routed to. And yes, the website is not updated. My receipt number dated 24 August doesn't show up online at all. Once you receive the NOA2, you will move on to the NVC stage. You can spend the next few months reading the processes and procedures forums, and maybe gather documents you need for NVC.

Exactly what the previous post said. It is basically a waiting game.
