Hi friends!

Might be someone could help me.

My fiance lives in the US, we want to apply for a k-1 visa.

My situation is not clear cos I have a Russian passport and a permit for living in Ukraine.

I was born in Ukraine , then I studied in St.Petersburg University then working there... I were living in Russia for 15 years.

I has returned to Ukraine 5 years ago.

I think you know that it is a war between Russia and Ukraine now and political situation is not good.

What do we need do in my case?

Maybe you can recommend us a good smart attorney who is working with similar cases?

Marry Christmas and Happy New year to all !

I think you can apply from Ukraine as long as you are legally present there and this is  the country of your residence now.

I see your concern about being in possession of russian passport - Ukraine doesn't recognize dual citizenship. But K1 visa will be processed by US Embassy, and Kiev will have nothing to do with that, so I don't think it would be a problem anyway.

You will need a police certificate later, at the embassy stage, from all countries you lived for more than 6 months. So, Russia, and Ukraine as well.

If this is  the only "issue" and otherwise your case is straight, I wouldn't hire attorney. You can find all info on USCIS website and here, on VJ.  But it's all up to you, guys!!!

Good luck!!! :)

P.S. if you didn't drop your Ukrainian citizenship "officially', you might be still  treated in Ukraine as Ukrainian no matter how many other passports you have... So maybe you still have your Ukrainian passport..somehow somewhere.. ???

Ok... I was probably wrong, saying you don't need an attorney... I'd start looking for a good one -   to answer the question what citizenship to use.

But still  - not a problem to apply from Kiev. You can definitely do that regardless of your citizenship.
