Biometrics question !

hello, folks. i e-filed yesterday and received e-notification with biometrics scheduled. but the notice didn't specify the date of appointment.  Should e-notification include the atual appt date on it or not ?

Do we have to go to the assigned ASC office for fingerprint? or can we choose the office closest to  our living place ? probably not. T-T

The e-notification that the appointment has been scheduled will not show a date----the PDF of the letter that shows up later in your account will reflect the actual date/place (you can print this out to use at your biometrics appointment, or wait for the physical letter to arrive in the mail 7-10 business days (on average) later.

 

Given that you just e-filed yesterday, you would not have been scheduled for a biometrics appointment the next day---the case status you are seeing online is most likely the generic statement that your biometrics appointment WILL be scheduled.

 

Yes, you can go to any ASC office for your biometrics appointment.  Keep in mind that doing this, can sometimes earn one a bit of a scolding when showing up...something to do with how it screws up stuff administratively on their end, I believe---but shouldn't affect your case at all.

thank you. i will just wait for the actual date anyway as long as there is status change on my case.

 

the reason i am asking about choosing the ASC is because my spouse is traveling in another state shortly  when the actual appt day arrives , i wonder if we are able to visit the local ASC in another state  on the same day  for fingerprint. I know the local staff might be mad about us. but who cares as long as it's not against the USCIS rule.

You MAY actually be turned away if you show up at a time when their schedule is full. Walk-ins are accepted only at THEIR convenience.

thank you. we will give it a try . if the local ASC is full scheduled on that day.  people suggest it's better to step in when they are about to close .

I would be careful about choosing to do it in another State completely----especially given that you are filing the N400 based on the 5-year residency eligibility. 

Better to do it in at least the city/State you reside in.

 

There's nothing prohibited in doing it in another State...but it may become a point of curiosity to the agent/field office.  Better to do an early walk-in and let them know that you will be travelling the day of the actual appointment (a valid/popular reason for an early walk-in).
