I read most of the N-400 traffic ticket related threads and decided to get the community's opinion. In the last 5 years since my permanent residency I got two speeding tickets (both below $500). I have been in the US on various visas, such as J-1, F-1 and H1-B and along with my permanent residency I've been here for 22 years now. I became a PR through employment after finishing an undergraduate, master's, working about 5 years on an H1-B and getting a PhD on an F-1 culminating in PR and work after that. 

 

It would be practically impossible for me to be able to find all my traffic tickets from four different states that I lived in. Is it enough to report tickets only since I became a PR? (never a DUI, only speeding tickets)

11/28/2016: Eligible for early-filling.

Day 00 - 12/23/2016: Sent N-400 + I-942 to Phoenix, AZ lockbox via USPS.

Day 03 - 12/26/2016: N-400 application marked delivered.

Day 25 - 01/17/2017: Sent email to support regards to application.

Day 26 - 01/18/2017: N-400 rejected because incorrect payment amount.

Day 32 - 01/24/2017: N-400 + I-942 resent.

Day 34 - 01/26/2017: N-400 application marked delivered.

Day 49 - 02/10/2017: N-400 rejected again because incorrect payment amount.

Day 52 - 02/13/2017: Email form USCIS support responded package was rejected in error (!?) for the first and second time submissions, they requested 3rd resubmission + tracking number in order to apply my earliest priority date. 

Day 52 - 02/13/2017: N-400 + I-942 resent on the same day, also sent a response to Lockbox to provide information to USCIS.

Day 54 (Day 0) - 02/15/2017: N-400 application marked delivered.

Day 62 (Day 8) - 02/23/2017: E-notification, E-mail from USCIS, E-mail from Support announced Resubmission was accepted.

Day 66 (Day 12)- 02/27/2017: Notice of Acceptance as Fees Waiver Approval received. (All fees were waived instead of reduced by half as supposed by filing form I-942)

Day 69 (Day 15) - 03/02/2017: Online Status Update: Fingerprint Appointment was scheduled. 

Day 70  (Day 16) - 03/03/2017: Fingerprint Appointment Letter received. Biometric will be on 3/15/17. 

Day 70  (Day 16) - 03/03/2017: Early Walked-In for Biometric at 3:45 PM.

Day 87 (Day 33) - 03/20/2017: Online Status Update: Case was placed in line for interview. 

Day 234 (Day 180) - 08/14/2017: Online Status Update: Interview has been scheduled.

Day 239 (Day 185) - 08/19/2017: Interview Letter received.

Day 269 (Day 215) - 09/18/2017: Interview 2:30 PM at USCIS SF Field Office. Recommended For Approval.

because you have been here for so long

- if you answer No they will seriously doubt you and may question you for good moral character - the FBI check will show any that were issued

- if you answer Yes then what you could maybe do is obtain police records from the states / cities you lived in - these would clear you as in show no open warrants exist in your name for you not paying a $50 fine 10 yrs ago in mid-state Idaho ( just using it as an example)

 

the reason  I say that is because the Yes No questions are formulated as Have you EVER .... not Have you in the last 5 years but ever in the US during your stay....

  • 07/30/2007 After no touches and no other signs we just got an email with the APPROVAL of I130....Thank God !....now what ?

  • 08/13/2007 DS3032 and AOS bill were generated

  • 08/14/2007 Emailed choice of agent ...i'm so curious when they will accept it...hopefully soon

  • 08/21/2007 DS3032 and AOS fee bill arive in mail

  • 08/27/2007 paid AOS fee bill
  • 8/28/2007 DS3032 choice of agent accepted
  • 9/3/2007 IV fee bill generated

so the police records would show what happened before the 5 years and for the speeding tickets within the last 5 years you would need to show proof of payment / dismissal...

here is my story... i had a ticket on the road trip in another state  and i paid in cash (less than $50 )and lost the receipt and ticket before i realized i need them during my citizenship application.   so i googled the county/city website thoroughly and finally they have a webpage allowing me search the citation/ticket history. i tried to put in my name and license plate number , it does show everything of my case  and the status of this traffic violation is CLOSED. Zero balance . i printed this page and included in my application evidence documents. This is what the officer wants to see. 

 

so do the best you can for yourself and provide as much detail as possible during the whole years of your staying in the U.S. it might sound crazy, however, being well prepared is beneficial to yourself, nobody else. Only you care about yourself. You have been waiting for this day coming for such a long journey. Why not just spend a little bit extra time and efforts to get yourself well prepared. 

 H1b ---> EB-1A (I-140) ---> I-485 AOS(Green Card) ---> 5 years --->  US Citizenship N400 application

Ask the DMV for a driving record/abstract.
