Do the emails and letters that you supply with the I-129 need to be translated into english? All of mine are in Portugese.

All documents that you wish to supply as evidence with your initial petition that is not in English must be accompanied by a translation.

The bigger question needs to be asked.... Why are you submitting e-mails with your initial petition?

YMMV

I thought this was needed for proof of an on going relationship.

The basic threshold that is required for the I-129F is that you have met your fiance(e) within the last two years. This is a MUST so concentrate on this type of evidence. The proof of ongoing relationship is not required for the initial petition but you of course can supply more than what is required (this type of evidence is usually saved for the interview stage of the process).

I submitted ZERO e-mails with my petition.

YMMV

You must prove you met in the past 2 years, but I think the more evidence you send the better. I sent in emails, skype call logs, pictures, passport stamps, bus tickets, etc and I had no RFE. I say send in everything you can. The more you send now, the less you'll have to worry about for interview time, because they'll already have everything.

As for the translation, they do need to be in English. You can translate the documents yourself, and include at the bottom:

I (YOUR NAME), certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and Portugese languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the letter preceding this document, as arranged in this submission packet.

sign, date, and include your address at the bottom of every sheet. This is the standard that the USCIS accepts, since I got this info off their site when I was putting together my I-129F.

Good luck :)

Just to clarify kuchjax,

When submitting your petition (I-129f) you should be sending proof of having met in person within the past 2 years (as Fwaguy said). The evidence you submit depends of course, on how you met.

The proof of Ongoing Relationship only comes into play once you get to the interview at the foreign fiancé's Embassy/Consulate.

I think they should find a better word than "met" which many take to mean, met as in "how do you do" introduction. The "how they met" everyone needs to prove is exactly the same: in person. Whether you were introduced online or in real life first, etc, is immaterial (with the exception of those who used service that would need to be disclosed under the IMBRA questions).

The evidence, then, should be fairly similar. Since people are from two different countries, you can assume there's some sort of passport stamp indicating travel, plus boat, plane, or whatever receipts, etc.
