I filed my AOS along with EAD and AP in 08/24, did Biometrics on 09/21.

On 9/25 USCIS said they mailed a request for initial evidence on I485.  Below is what's showing up on my case.

Is this considered RFE? Will this affect EAD and AP timeline? Once I send in whatever they request, will they calculate the time all over again?

Thanks much for anyone who had experience!!!!

If they sent an request for initial evidence (RFIE), then they will reset the counter for when you can submit a service request for being outside normal timelines back to 0 once they get your response. If they send just a request for evidence (RFE), then it only pauses until they get the response. It sounds like they sent an RFIE in your case.

That said, I haven't seen a noticeable difference between actual processing of AP/EAD once they get the response...it mostly just affects when you can submit the SR for being at 75+ days.

Thank you so much and yes, what I got was RFIE. Just stupid question: what is SR? :))

Are you saying this wont affect much with AP/ EAD but will prolong the AOS process?

Thanks again!!!

We received an RFE, responded to it the same day, and from filing our AOS package to approval it took us around four and a half months. From what I've seen, that's a lot faster than a lot of cases I have seen on VJ that did not have any RFEs. In our case, it did not affect our timeline by that much. We received our NOA1 on May 9, 2017,  the RFE on May 26th, the EAD/AP on June 22nd and our interview was on September 21st. Our timeline is in our signature if you want to see a recent case with an RFE. We did apply for an expedite on June 7th for the EAD that was approved due to a pending job offer though, which is an option you also have if you wish to pursue it. The company wrote a letter stating the pending job offer after he told them about the EAD situation. :)

SR = Service Request.

It will pause the AP/EAD processing, but likely won't cause it to actually start over from scratch. For instance, if you waited 60 days, got the RFIE, responded 10 days later, then you would likely hear back on it within 60 more days (4 months total is common nowadays). As for AOS, I'm not sure myself since the timelines vary so much to begin with...could be a few months to a year (or longer). Just the sooner you respond, the sooner they are able to work on it. :)

Good luck!

It took me 133 days to receive my EAD/AP in total. I'm was an Oct filer, RFIE in Dec, EAD in Feb. 64 days after my response was send back.

While I don't think there is an exact pattern, I think it hugely depends who your adjudicator is and how slow this person is with adjudicating though.
