Afternoon folks,

I'm currently living in Alabama, I'm 7 months pregnant. We have filed my AOS, and have the I-797c back, biometrics are completed. At the moment I'm trying to figure out how to pay for my baby's delivery, which will be in December. My husband doesn't have insurance through his job (we have a joint sponsor). I was researching Medicaid, and in the state of Alabama it says that pregnant women must "be in satisfactory immigration status according to agency rules (Non-citizens must provide proof of immigrant status to receive full Medicaid services.)"

Does this mean that I can apply for Medicaid? Our other options are simply a payment plan with the hospital after the delivery, which is coming in at about $7000. Insurance will actually cost more than the monthly payment plan.

Thanks (hopefully) for whatever advice you can offer me.

keep in mind that insurance is ment to mitigate risk and if everything goes well it will cost less to not have insurance. but if the unfortunate happens and there is a complication it would be cheaper to have insurance. it is up to you on if you want to pay for the risk or if insurance pays for the risk.

thank you for being a good person who will pay the hospital for the services they give you rather than skipping on the bill like a lot of people try to do when they don't have insurance.

Thanks friend. Will try and remember to have him pull out next time. <_< also- I'm not stupid- I did state that we would be paying for it. You have to be pretty obtuse to know there's no free health care here.

Pregnant women can get medicaid. Its emergency medicaid- no problem for AOS.

Contact your local social services office to apply.

Ignore the comments that judge or state you do not qualify or theres no such thing. Plenty of threads on VJ about this topic with links to applicable laws.

Thank you- this was very helpful. I'm planning on going to my Medicaid office tomorrow.
