I'm starting to get glimpsies of how easy he makes the renovation look, as opposed to seeing Larry covered in dirt and grime while working alone at your house.

I posted a brief update to the house blog last night...

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I'm all updated with Enon Hall, and indeed, they had A LOT of help, even if they're finishing by themselves.

I'll go read your tool porn update now. :P

P.S. I thought the butter thing from Enon Hall was cool, last night's update.

ohhhh I just saw this thread and it is nice to see fellow VJers out there getting their own hands dirty!.. I have just finished the first garden on our (new) old house which we just brought. The yard is over an acre so it is a small step on a very big track. Last weekends project was building steps off the back deck... as soon as I get some batteries for the camera I will try to post some pics, but I used 2" timber and all went well... in fact the steps are more solid than the deck! James and his best friend were invaluable for the heavy lifting and sawing!

Now for nest weekend... the balustrade!

Be sure to post pics, it seems I'm not the only VJer who's into DIY (even though I have no carpenter skills).

Rather than start anew I thought I'd just add to this pre-existing thread. Work started on the outside of the house yesterday. We're finally getting it painted...yay! We found a little whippet of a man with no fear of heights at all (unlike wimpy hubby and I!!) who works construction to come round and do it. Very reasonable prices and he started a couple of days ago. Progress is a little slow but getting there. He swears it'll all be painted by Sunday...ha. I think he is over ambitious but we'll see! Anyway here are some pics for ya:

Front, mid tear off:

Post tear off (barring one or two little bits):

Sides, mid tear off:

The final colour will be the same as the area underneath the porch and the addition that you can see in one of the photos; dark grey, with off white trim and Spanish Red doors. All authentic colonial colours apparently. ;) The clapboards themselves are roughly 170 years old and, although water stained, in remarkable condition. No major repairs are needed, just a brief scrape to remove flaky paint, and undercoat and top coat. The crappy siding may have been awful but it saved us having to replace all the clapboards.

The Fleur De Lys on the porch will also be red. We're getting there, albeit slowly! I'll post some more as the work continues. :)

ur my renovation twinsie! although your renovation dwarfs mine :D

Im so happy you got affordable help. I saw the quote on your site and thought it was outstanding. You know I think the grey is uber-fab, but that red is fantastic as well!

I was the first to comment on the blog how I think this will be a fantastic thing that will make Larry want to finish the inside as well. I love the colors!
