Heya!

So I'm currently waiting for my EAD around the 40 days mark and I am wondering whether I can actually try to expedite it. My husband does have a good paying job ($45,000). However he has 3 credit cards which he's majorly in debt (between $5,000 - $10,000 each), has a monthly car payment which has a total of around $5,000 left, which he doesn't even own anymore because he got into a car accident around a year ago, plus a whole lot of student loans. Therefore each month he pays one of the minimum amounts he can which is basically only really covering the interest on them. I am also in student debt from the UK (around 45,000 pounds sterling) which is occurring interest each month also.

I have not started applying for jobs yet because if I'm going to be working in the hospitality industry (preferably as a server), I can't imagine that they would hold a $5 an hour job for me?

Would love for help/peoples opinions if this would be a suitable reason to expedite?

nope

you have to have a job offer in hand for them to expedite the ead. and you need proof such as an offer letter from the company saying they want to hire you.

it essentially comes down to why should they expedite your petition if you might not find a job before they would have gotten to your petition anyway.

I agree with @f f that you need to have a job offer in hand to even try to get an expedited EAD.

Good Luck!

an expedite is the same as jumping to the front of the que, so you going to the front makes everyone else wait for them to process yours. if you have a job offer there is a reason you need to get it sooner but without the job offer they will ask why you should go in front of everyone else.

that being said ho out and start applying for jobs so you can submit an expedite request that has a job offer in it so they can give it to you.

I don't see a severe financial hardship here to qualify for an expedite.

I wouldn't be too surprised if a restaurant would be flexible enough to "hold" a job. I don't want to get your hopes up, but it's not out of the question either.

Ah okay, gotcha!

do you reckon I shouldn't even try? Does that harm the process?

I would suggest you spend the time looking for the job, with the job offer letter you can now apply for expedited EAD.  Since there is nothing to expedite the EAD for.....

The expedite process means jumping the queue to attend to your case...... only reasonable proof will make them even consider the expedition....as I believe the expedited request is not even a sure guaranty .....
