I just got my interview letter for the Minneapolis office. I'm kinda surprised because I'm close to the MN/ND border and I originally had an interview scheduled at Fargo, although that was subsequently de-scheduled. I am an online filer.

Adding myself to the list...

Yeah, I'm very surprised considering the MSP field office's reputation. I originally had an interview scheduled at the Fargo, ND field office. But it was descheduled the very next day.

is it mainly because of the bloody cold weather making Minneapolis office processing sooooooo slow ? or they just work half day?!

i have friend in another state filed at the same week as mine in Nov 2017, and they already interviewed last week.

Passed the interview today, everything went pretty smoothly. Thought I would write it up quickly for you guys.

  • Appointment was at 0900, arrived about 0830. Airport-like security, then checked in at a main desk. Waiting room was big and had good views north towards the river (office on 7th floor, 250 Marquette). Was called in about 0920 - note that it's a good idea to sit close to the door, as while InfoPass appointments are announced over the PA system & displayed on TVs, for interviews the Officer just shouts your number from the doorway.
  • Interview took about 15-20 minutes. Officer was very businesslike, not unfriendly at all - asked me to stay standing and take an oath to tell the truth, then went through my application, basically asked me to confirm the information on my application (questions like "Where do you live now?", "Are you married?" etc.) and then went through all the Yes/No questions towards the end of the application.
  • Officer noted the corrections made to the form (additional trip outside the US since filing etc.) and then reviewed them with me. Asked about my willingness to take the Oath at the naturalization ceremony.
  • Was asked to read "Who elects Congress" and write "The people elect Congress".
  • Civics questions were printed on a piece of paper in the file, Officer asked the first 6 and stopped when I got them all correct:
    • Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?
    • What is the party of the President?
    • What are the two main political parties in the US?
    • Who is the Commander in Chief of the Military?
    • Name three of the 13 original states.
    • Name a country that borders Mexico.
  • Was asked to sign a piece paper with my name etc. confirming the info was correct for the naturalization certificate, then was asked to sign the back page of the N400 saying that I'm willing to take the Oath, and that was it. Was told to expect a notice for Oath ceremony in the next week or two, but that there wasn't a big backlog waiting for oaths so I might still get in a ceremony later this month.

One final note, there was a trainee officer observing the interview, so they may be hiring more to enable things to move more quickly? Hope so, got my fingers crossed for all you guys :)

Thank you so much taking time to write down the feedback and experience. there wasn’t much on this forum talking about Minneapolis office....This field office is processing N400 applications from 3.5 states. They definitely should recruit more officers to match the case load ,especaiily its been a year since they relocated to a much bigger and modern office building in Minneapolis downtown. My status says it takes 15 months to process, seriously ?

Do USCIS office get paid by the federal or the state ? Minnesota is rich anyway.

OMG! My interview was today at 9 as well! And I had a trainee officer interviewing me and someone senior observing. Same experience, down to being told the oath ceremony will be fairly fast!
