One more for the night: my fiancee will be going through the Rio de Janeiro embassy for her interview and such, and was wondering a few things:

Has anyone had experience with the interview process and people there? How is it?

I understand you have to get your medical exam in that city before the interview, which implies an overnight stay. Are the assigned doc office(s) near the embassy and are there any good/not expensive hotels you can recommend very near there?

Thanks!

Hi !

I am from Rio and I had the same doubts as for your fiancé, I searched online and found this blog http://yasmindias.blogspot.com/ and I could clear all my doubts with it. The exam needs to be done 3 business days before the appointment with the Embassy Doctor (Dr. Garrido) and Dr. Garrido will only accept to schedule the appointment via e-mail (rjconsultorio@gmail.com) only after her interview is scheduled with the Embassy. Once she has the 3 exams ready the LAB will send the exams to Dr. Garrido. So she needs to stay in Rio for at least 4 business days only for the Doctor appointment and exams. The exams are paid (X-ray R$170,00, blood R$50,00 and urine R$ 262,15) and the only Doctor appointment costs R$600,00.  Total R$1082,15 = 350,00 USD

This blog recommends IBIS downtown Rio but I believe you fiancé and you can search online for a good pricing.

Dr. Garrido and his secretary will provide all the information your fiancé need to know in regarding the lab's address and the pricing she needs to pay.

Hope this will help you. Good luck.

Thanks! Is it possible to get some of the labs done ahead of time in her home city and have them sent to Dr. Garrido? Also is it possible for the doctor to bill me instead of her just in case?

Also, how is that neighborhood? I've heard a lot of bad things about the current crime rate in Rio.

Hi, I am not sure if she can do the exams in another city if she will use Dr. Garrido, i believe only the Rio labs are allowed to do the exams for him, you can ask him via e-mail (rjconsultorio@gmail.com), If she lives in one of the below cities, she can do the labs exams and medical appointment in the closest city (doesn't need to be in RIO specifically). Dr. Garrido doesn't accept credit card or anything else, only cash. (you can transfer her money via Paypay or TransferWise you should check online for that)

In regarding the neighborhood, this area is the "noble" area of Rio, of course, there are lots of crimes and robberies, but this is everywhere in Rio. She needs to be smart and pay lots of attention, stay on the closest hotel and use uber to go from one point to another.
