You know what would be refreshing? To be able to discuss an issue without the oversensitive types trying to bully those they disagee with into submission to their PC thinking and back into their comfort zones. Put away your box of insults and try staying on the topic. Maybe then, we'll make progress and come to an understanding. OR, we could just keep on picking on fat and older women, where you feel comfortable.

If you were making some other life change/decision would you not consider all the facts, all the possible pit falls? For you and others on here to deny the huge gulf between arabs and westerners is naive and flat out stupid. No one is saying the relationships can't work, but these are HUGE things to deal with prior to marriage (including religion).

The only reason why I'm seen as a bully by people like you is because you have no intelligent response to my views. You can only offer insults to try to shut me up. That is the vibe I get from you and those who do the same. Engage the topic with something more than hurt feelings; that would benefit us all.

It's easy to say that being Arab doesn't make me an authority on Arabs, but I've been Arab for a hell of a long time, and not only that, I study Arabs and Muslims for a living, teaching Americans how to live among them in the MENA. I may come off as a know-it-all to some, but that is mostly because you don't like what I'm saying, I don't back down, and because you have no other support for your argument than to insult me.

G-E G, I thought your grandparents emigrated to the U.S. This is mostly just my personal curiosity, but I could have sworn that you were a native-born American citizen; doesn't mean your family history isn't Arab, or that you don't have experience. Just doubting my memory that has you as a blond-haired, green-eyed, second- or third- generation gal.

On the larger topic... I thought peezey's comment about 'would you marry a poor, uneducated, unemployed American with whom you communicated by using gestures' was very interesting. There's an... American (maybe even human*) tendency to exoticize whatever is different and other. The Moroccan culture is X. Russian girls are Y. Filipina girls are Z. "Asian" girls are A. And if that different and other person is telling you're beautiful, and you're wonderful, and their culture seems like it will cure whatever you dislike about your own (your past, your American ex-husband or ex-wife).... there always seem to be surprises when reality clashes with the myth built up in your head.

Not much to be done about it except be honest with yourself, to my mind.

*I say this because of a student who went on vacation to Beijing and found that as a Westerner, he had tons of attention from young Chinese women, which he wisely recognized as more a love with everything that was 'modern' and 'new', which has been associated with the U.S. My student's a cutie, but he's not rich or a movie star, y'know?

peezy is not always right but she didn't say anything that really I found offensive.. Her posts are actually kind of dry and clinical and I always feel like I am reading the same post. She is not offensive.. on the contrary.. she reminds me of a female Dr Spock.. the queen of clinical..

You on the other hand are an old fashioned bully...And I think being that other people are starting to state that fact.. I think you should ask yourself why they are saying it. You told me I AM ON YOUR LIST... like you were going to do some black magic on me or come get me or something..
