I'm not sure where this is suposed to go but how does clearing us immigration @ shannon effect someone holding a K1 visa? Will it delay things like applying for a SSN etc? Aer Lingus seems a cheap flight, but we have to clear immigration in Shannon!

03-05-2007 NOA2 - YAY!! (Day 89))

Buuuuh right offhand I'd say don't worry about it. You have to clear Irish immigration in Shannon and US immigration once you reach US soil so I can't think of any scenario where it would impact it one way or the other.

It is still clearing US Immigration... doesnt matter if it is Shannon or Podunk Alaska... in the age of computers they are all on the same system

My son did it on a K2 - no different to doing it any other place - just made it quicker at this end!

K1 VISA & MARRIAGE - 8 MONTHS

17 February 2004 Sent I-129F petition CSC - It was APPROVED in 147 days

3 September 2004 INTERVIEW IN LONDON SUCCESSFUL VISA APPROVED! MARRIED OCTOBER 16, 2004

ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS - 5 MONTHS

4 January 2005 - Submitted applications for AOS and EAD - 12 May 2005 Conditional Permanent Residency Approved - interview in Santa Ana

4 June 2005 CPR 2-year Green Card arrives in mail

REMOVAL OF CONDITIONS - 3½ MONTHS

8 May 2007 - I-751 sent to CSC - 23 August 2007 - Approved - Card production ordered

30 August 2007 - 10 year Green Card received

K2 TIMELINE (Stayed behind in UK to finish school)

28 March 2005 - embassy interview & medical London - visa granted

01/18/06 Applications for AOS/EAD sent - 03/28/06 EAD approved

4/3/06 - RFE for AOS - requested new medical and vacc supplement

4/26/06 - approved without interview and welcome letter sent

05/02/2006 - Greencard arrives in mail

03/14/08 - Petition to Remove Conditions mailed to CSC delivered - 7/2/08 APPROVED

NATURALIZATION TIMELINE (for myself and son) 5 MONTHS

April 18, 2011 - N-400 Applications Mailed to AZ lockbox

April 21 (received April 25) NOAs

May 12 - FP Letters mailed

May 16 - Received FP appointment letters for June 8 at 11am

August 1 - Interview - approved for Oath Ceremony - OATH CEREMONY 28 SEPTEMBER

US immigration is cleared at Shannon. CBP has a preclearance station there.

Agreed that it does make it easier in the end. Very quick to go thru Immigration at Shannon, no long queues, no waiting, friendly helpful staff. Best of luck!

February 13, 2006: I-130 filed (US Embassy, Dublin, Ireland).

April 18, 2006: Interview date received.

May 02, 2006: Interview (US Embassy, Dublin, Ireland). Visa approved.

June 14, 2006: Moved to Charlotte, NC.

July 20, 2006: 'Welcome to the United States' letter received.

July 21, 2006: Applied for SSN.

July 29, 2006: SSN received.

September 05, 2006: 2 year Permanent Resident card received.

Not much effect on AOS (or SSN app), though you may not be able to get the 90-day EAD @ Shannon (well, the chances you'll have an I-765 approved less than 90 days after entering on K-1 are minuscule2, so...)

You will have to clear US Customs (not immigration) after landing in US--unlike Canada, the PFI's @ Shannon and Dublin handle immigration only.

At least HALF of the clearance can be done when you're fresh, rather than when you're jetlagged.

2005/12/02 Packet-3 received from Chennai

2005/12/21 Visa Interview Date

Lady sat next to us on our flight home to the US last Sept was coming on a K1, when we landed at Shannon she joined the non us citizen line and was pulled out and added to the citizen line just behind us.... when we spoke to her, once we were back on the plane she said that the immigration staff had been very nice and they just checked her packet, did some stuff on the computer, stamped her passport and she was all done in under 10 mins.... once we arrived in Boston she walked through US Customs with us and had no problems.... she tought it was easier than she though it would be.... only down side was she did not get Temp EAD, they told her that it is been withdrawn...

Thanks everyone!! I was just worried that it would hold up SSN application, but you guys have put my mind at rest now! They seem pretty cheap so I might just go and book with them!!

I cleared immigration in Dublin, and two weeks after that I still was "not in the system". It might have been an exception or it might be typical of US POEs in Ireland.

I tried again in two weeks and got my SSN.

Aer Lingus seems a cheap flight, but we have to clear immigration in Shannon!

I would consider it to be a good thing. I much prefer to stand in a line before my flight (when I have to be at the airport anyway) than after it (when I am tired and only want to go home).

Annie cleared in Dublin without a problem and we have no problems in the US.

Once you are cleared you no longer need to wait in the non-citizen queue.

The "Work Authorized" stamp is issued with the I-94 and is done when clearing customs as stated before.
