Traveling around USA while under AOS

I agree, but but from what I understand the passport is valid, it is only that the visa that was expired. Sounds to me like a cashier was being a bit over zealous. But I'm not quite sure why they would have looked at the visa and not just the bio page of the passport.

PS: I had experience buying something from a mall and they ask for my ID and they declined it because my Visa is already expired they didn't accept my PH passport. Which I think is very retarded.

You are fine to travel domestic with your passport.

 

I traveled from Florida to California with my wife (3 times, we have family out there) while my AOS was pending and I just used my Canadian passport at the TSA checkpoint. Nobody flipped through my passport pages at security in either Orlando or Los Angeles. When you land, you just get off the plane and walk out.

 

This was just during my AOS. But I can't tell you the number of times that I have flown domestic even before we got married, and I have no US visas or I-94s in my passport and it was just fine. Whenever I handed them my boarding passes, I made sure my photo page of the passport was open and I handed it to them and that was it. They really don't check.

 

When I went to Southern California I made sure to carry my AOS paperwork just because there is such a high presence of the border patrol there everywhere (on the highways, airports, shopping areas in San Diego, etc.) but I highly doubt you'll encounter that in Boise Idaho or in Vegas.

It's possible the OP was asked for ID if buying alcohol, etc.
