Hi guys! A May Chicago Filer here!

Yesterday at 11PM I have received the notification that my case was updated. I guess by Friday I should have the letter with the actual interview date.

Hope things start to move and more of us will get it soon!

Did you get your interview date?

Yes, I did receive it last Friday (Mar 2nd). The interview date was set for April 2nd, 1PM.

Hope will go smooth.

The story behind my concern:

A friend of mine applied in April 2017, Biometrics after one month, Got his interview notification on Dec 5th 2017, Interview for Jan 10th 2018; Interview was smooth, however: the IO said that he is new and needs a more senior IO to review too.

Two months later (today) he still has no news on that "revision".

(Chicago office; the guy is from Europe; applied on the 3Yr basis; in US uninterrupted since 2012; GreenCard since 2010; Has two American kids born here - in case anybody wondered). Very strange situation. Worth moving to Vermont :) 2 friends of mine got their Oath within 3 months from application last Fall (well, the entire population of Vermont is less than 1 million - no wonder there is no line whatsoever).

Cheers everybody!

I hate when there is no rhyme or reason behind immigration matters. I hope your friend receives some response soon. Two months wait on a oath ceremony is way too long. I wonder why he applied under 3 yr rule if he had a GC since 2010?

Well I'm glad to hear you got your date, this whole process is unnecessarily long and stressful.

Good of luck studying and preparing for it! Let us know how it goes.

I really wonder if it's the new administration who has slowed the citizenship process down. I mean, USCIS received very similar amount of applications in 2015 and 2016 too (looking at the past data on USCIS N400 data). And it still didn't take this long to process the applications. The wait has been INSANELY CRAZY.

I am not sure on my hypothesis, but:

Usually, there are about 500.000-700.000 applicants per year (based on their statistics); that is roughly 40-60.000 applicants per month (maybe there is also a seasonality to it - I do not know).

I have figured (using unofficial assumptions) that the number of applicants in March, April, May of 2017 was about 160.000 per month.

(The deciphering of the receipt numbers does not seem to work as described on various websites - at least for N400; so based on 4 receipt numbers that I know of, I assumed that the last 6 digits represent a simple numerical count). Well, between myself and my friend (April 10 vs May 15) the difference in numbers is 156971 - I assume this is how many applicants were between myself and my friend (regardless of the office location). 130000-150000 per month *12 months = 1.5-1.8 Million applicants per year (extrapolated)??? Not scientific, I know....but maybe most of us rushed to apply in Spring of 2017, hence the delays 9on top of other changes they've implemented) :)))?

Are there any Chicago N-400 paper filers with NOAs in June besides @currentuser? Any in July? August? or later?

Also, who else (like us) applied in any manner (paper or online) and had their N-400 interview not take place because of a pending I-751, and is now somewhere in the process of having a separate I-751 interview before the real N-400 interview can be rescheduled? I know this has happened to at least two others but I don't recall the usernames.

If either of the above applies to you, I'd be interested in however much the following info you have, depending on where you are in the process:

* date filed

* NOA date

* N-400 interview letter date

* N-400 interview date

* oath date (probably not that far along, but hey, weird things happen...)

Many thanks!

@Steelers1020, for Chicago people with May priority dates, the average number of days between PD and interview letter is 280 (the range is from about 244 to 297). Looks like you're right at 280 today... here's hoping it won't be too much longer for you!

Thank you! Hopefully not too too too too much longer then... if (as I hypothesize) our online filing got converted to paper during the whole pending-I-751 debacle, then our trajectories might be pretty close (PD date 7/12).

Hopefully my husband will get his interview notice by 3/16. That's my timeline based on silly calculations. 😂

My silly calculations (a linear regression derived from a scatter plot of 29 paper-filed cases found on VJ and Trackitt with NOAs January - May 2017) puts his interview letter at 3/20. I like your version better. Here's hoping!

(For anyone interested: the number of days between NOA and interview letter has worked out so far to about y = 1.13225x + 126.5, where y = number of days between NOA and interview letter, and x = NOA date expressed as a number [January 1, 2017 = 1; January 2 = 2; etc.] Almost exactly half of the cases went a bit faster, and the other half went a bit slower than the linear regression, by an average of about 2.5 weeks either way; two cases took almost 8 weeks longer than the line would predict, while no case went more than just slightly under a month faster. Basically, the line/equation sort of functions as more-or-less the middle of a one-month window in which the interview letter is most likely to be issued.)

Wow! I'm impressed. This is so much better then what I was doing to figure out possibilities.
