Hello I am trying to fill out I-864 I am sponsoring my wife...but I encountered a problem in household size section... the household size total box is automatically filled by a one I know u have to hand write the number of immigrants you are sponsoring which in my case would be 1 for my wife then 1 for myself and 2 for our kids but then total it only shows 3 but I need it to show 4 can I white out it? Or how do I solve that?

How are you filling out the form computer or handwritten? If computer, are you using Adobe PDF the online form works best with adobe, the barcodes get updated. I have a Mac and it was using the "Preview" program, but it was omitting the barcodes, I ended up downloading Adobe.

The i864 is a 2D-bar code form, you should complete it either completely electronically or completely in hand-writing. Forms that are electronically filled in are scanned when received and hand-written info is not registered in the 2D bar code. Unfortunately there have been automatically generated rfe's in some cases (depending on which information has been hand written, it seems some is required) due to "blank fields" that were in fact hand-written.

I don't believe this would matter for the "N\A" since fields that can be N/A'ed are not the most crucial fields relating to income and household size.

Also, if you try to fill it out in the web browser you will likely not be able to fill out some fields. Download the form and open it from the "file" "open" in adobe reader to make sure it is working properly.

Well, that may be true, but I have also seen VJ members report that they spoke with people at NVC who told them that while the 2D barcodes are on the I-864, they aren't actually used. See this post from just a couple of weeks ago.

So it really isn't clear if what the "correct" option is. I believe you that people have received RFE's, but others have received conflicting information. In a similar fashion, the I-130 guides here say that the beneficiary's birth certificate is no longer required, but I know of several cases recently where people were issued RFE's for just that reason.

And in my case I am using the I-864EZ which does not have a 2D barcode, so it really does't matter if I fill out mine all electronic, all by hand, or some combination. OP will have to decide what they want to do.

Well since that customer service rep obviously didn't know that they by law aren't allowed to tell/help ppl how to fill out the form I would take anything they said with a grain of salt. I also think It's better that correct info is found in the thread for future readers, which is part of why I posted.

As I said, from the rfes it seems that only some info is crucial, doubt this would be a phone number aswell.

Wow, yes I am also only here to help and provide the most accurate information that I can. Sorry if we aren't all as knowledgeable as you apparently are on what the service reps are legally allowed to do and say.

I wasn't in anyway referencing you as providing wrong information. I don't know why you would think that. I mean literally what I said, that the information about tube 2D barcoded form should be in the thread for future readers and that's why I posted. I didn't post to tell anybody what to do, simply just to put the infornation out.

About the help lines, if you search VJ you'll find information about that. That they aren't allowed to. Again, that was a tip, I don't know what caused your strong reaction, but there was nothing against you in my post.
