Hi, It is my first time applying for a Visa to the US. I am from POrtugal ( a EU Country) but I will fly from and I am also living in Germany. I have filled the DS-160 and apllied for ESTA. I have an appointment scheduled for the 31st july (it was scheduled on the begginng of june and it was the closer enterview available) and I am a little worried because my flight is on the 5th of august. And I also have payed for the VISA.

But what I have been told is that countries in the waiver programm and that require the ESTA do not need interview, is this correct? I only have to wait for the enterview now?

Than you in advance for all the answers

Why would you file a DS-160 if you're going to travel on VWP? All you need is an approved ESTA. DS-160 is only for visas.

Thank you so much. Do you know if countries in the waiver programm have to go through interviews also?

You only go through an interview if you're applying for a visa. VWP means "Visa Waiver Program", meaning you can travel to the US without a visa, you just need an ESTA.

As you are allowed to stay in the US up to 90 days under the VPW  ( Esta) I would cancel the DS-160. ESTA is valid for 2years  and is quicker ( within a few minutes) and you have to have it at least 24hrs before traveling. Are you going on vacation or something else if I may ask?

Thank you for your answers. Yes I am going on vacations. So Now I have applied to ESTA and I am waiting for the answer. I had filled  DS-160 , payed the fee (:( yes I know it is not refundable) and scheduled the interview but with your advices I have cancelled the interview and I think that is enough to cancel DS-160. I am expecting now th ESTA results.

EU is irrelevant, Portugal is a VWP Country so an approved ESTA is what you need.

Sounds like you applied for a B.
