Hi.   Since I have to surrender my green card after my citizenship oath, does anyone know if I can drive across the border with only my nexus card?   I would like to attend a family event in Canada shortly after my oath.  Will I have any issue getting back home into the US?

Thanks

Sly

Sorry, I don't directly know the answer to that one.

But what is your time frame -- how long is "shortly"? And do you live near a passport agency or center? (list here: https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/information/where-to-apply/agencies.html) If so, you can expedite a passport for an extra $60 by making an appointment and providing proof of immediate international travel. You can get the passport in "less than 2-3 weeks," whatever that means...

We emailed them to find out too, as we were thinking on going up to Canada shortly after I got mine. Two of the kids were automatically USC under me, but they couldn't answer it for them. Just said to use their CG or

certificate.

At your ceremony they will tell you that you cannot use the certificate to enter the US. But the Border tells ppl all the time they can. I wish the two agencies would at least give the same answer for this question at least.

Thing is, under international law, countries cannot deny entry to their citizens, so CBP knows that they'll have to let you in once you demonstrate you're American (with the certificate supporting your claim).  They might ask you to come in and ask questions, but eventually they'll let you in.

American tourists visiting Canada and losing their passports are able to drive back to the USA everyday with very little delay.
