N-400 Processing time

Processing time chart has been updated for the Seattle office.  Processing September/2016 cases.  Will never understand why a 15 to 20 minute interview for citizenship can have them backlogged so long.   Like any other business, if business is good, then they should hire more help.  The fees they charge with the millions of applications for N-400 should give them plenty of money to hire more employees to provide this service.  If they received my application on 3/7/2017 and the Processing time chart shows Sept of 2016 that means, I believe I still have a possible 6 months before they even get to our interview making this process just as long as the I-751 which is much more complicating.  I appreciate any feedback on my comments if my issue is not legitimate.   Thank you

I filed my N400 receipt date 5/4/17 and am scheduled for interview already, it depends on your states population too. If you don't mind me asking did you do your bio? My local office is Boston.

But for contrast to @Faith38 - I am also in Boston, my NOA priority date is May 5th and notice date May 8th - I am still waiting to go inline.  There are lots of variables affecting progression. Probably some we don't even know about behind the scenes.

Try not to get too disheartened!

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Formula is simple, if they get more applications than they could process, they slow down. Private companies easily resolve this by hiring more people; the decision could even be made overnight; but when it comes to government as you can imagine hiring process and training could take several months. I had very similar complaints during my ROC process but couldn't do anything other than waiting. Luckily during my N400 process Boston office was among the fastest in the nation so that kind of paid for my long I-751 wait. With the elections, fee increase, Trump-fear, people surged the N400 applications and hence all field offices slowed down. It looks like some field offices are back on track going down to the USCIS's goal of 5 months, probably sometime next year things will be even better for the majority of field offices, for you guys just call it bad timing.

Although I believe my field office is moving fairly quickly, I think this statement is so funny.  Every single time I've done a step it's been "bad timing".  Me and my CR-1 cohort from early 2013 have had backlogs and "bad timing" the ENTIRE TIME.  Like I said in another post that was complaining about N400 taking 10 months, if our N400 only takes 10 months it will be the fastest step BY FAR and I would be over the moon.
